Questions & Answers

Tableware on board, answered

Practical answers for yacht owners, captains, interior designers and chief stewards.

Can you use candles on a yacht?

Open flames are a fire risk on board, and many yachts restrict them. LED candles give the same soft glow safely, without dripping wax onto linens or teak.

How do you stop tableware sliding on a yacht?

For daily use and the deck, choose our wipe-clean, grippy woven vinyl and faux-leather placemats. Keep shell, beaded and mother-of-pearl placemats for formal dinners at anchor

What should you look for in yacht tableware?

Look for pieces that are stable, stack neatly and survive daily washing. Glasses with low profiles, plates with a solid foot and placemats that grip the table cope with movement far better than tall, delicate pieces.

Is porcelain or acrylic better for a yacht?

Porcelain suits the formal dining salon, where guests expect fine dinnerware. Acrylic is the safer choice on deck, in the tender and at the beach club, where breakages are more likely, which is why many yachts carry both.
