Setting a superyacht dining table
Any time spent on board a yacht is soaked in elegance and luxury. So when it comes to sitting down to eat, we love ensuring that guests are left in awe before they even try the food. Fine dining is always an exciting experience whether it's your first time or your one-hundredth time, so it is essential to create an opulent but comfortable atmosphere.
There are different challenges that come with setting a superyacht dining table, such as space constraints and unique environmental factors. So here are a few of our top tips on how to achieve a perfect dining table setting on board a superyacht.
Find the setting
With multiple dining space options on a superyacht, the first step is to decide if the meal will be served inside or outside on the deck. This influences the rest of the table setting process. If you are dining alfresco, will it be windy? If so, you will need to ensure everything is weighed down. If it is inside, are the tables a different shape to those on deck? If the answer is ‘yes’, you will need to find a specific tablecloth to fit it. These are all factors that need to be considered when choosing your decorations and setting a superyacht dining table.
Pick your theme
We often find that picking a theme for your table setting is a great next step. A theme could be something as simple as a colour scheme, or something more extravagant like our ‘Sea La Vie’ collection. Choosing a theme doesn't have to be difficult: you could build one around the location you are currently anchored, or even the cuisine your chef is about to serve. If you are eating Italian, perhaps you could choose some reds and greens?
Our collections are a great starting point. They draw inspiration from around the globe and are comprised of hand-selected dinnerware, centrepieces, and stunning colour schemes.
Prep your table
Starting with the basics, ensure the dining area is clean and clear of any unnecessary distractions; you don’t want anything to take away from the beauty of your table. Next, move on to your tablecloth, ensuring it is clean and pressed. A wrinkled tablecloth would be a terrible foundation for a beautiful dinner setting. Remember: the tablecloth goes a long way to setting the scene, so choose wisely.
If you are looking for something more muted, we love the ‘Ovni tablecloth - by Alexandre Turpault’, which includes some beautifully subtle florals. Maybe you are wanting a pop of colour? If you are looking for a rich blue then our ‘Symphonie Baroque by Le Jacquard Francais’ would be the perfect match.
Decorations
This is your chance to get really creative. Adding decorations to your table allows you to bring it to life: you can be as extravagant as you want with lighting, centrepieces, and bold colours. Your table decorations will be the part of the design that wows your yacht guests the most, so don’t hold back; create something they will remember.
Lighting is a great way to set the mood. Lower lighting tends to make things feel more intimate and inviting. You can use some subtle LED candles to create an ambience, but you can take it to the next level by using one of these stunning candelabras! Another great way to add extra excitement to your table is through flowers. We often find that flowers bring a spring/summer vibe to the table, so these could a perfect addition to a lighter breakfast or lunch.
Not everything on your table has to be practical. If you are looking to add a little extra and elevate your table décor, then we recommend looking at our decorative pieces. We have no doubt they will wow your guests, and you will barely have had to lift a finger.
However, be sure to keep in mind the space required to serve and eat the meal. A table that is too busy can be frustrating for diners.
Don’t forget the little things
Once you can see your ideal dining table setting coming together, it is easy to get caught up and forget the finishing touches. The finishing touches can be things as simple as making sure your napkins are pressed and starched to ensure they look pristine, or printing out personalised menus for each seat. One of our favourite little additions are place card holders. These can be used to hold place cards or menus, and can be in keeping with the general theme. Another favourite of ours that would fit beautifully on an ocean or nautical-themed table is the ‘Coral Place Card Holders By Joanna Buchanan’, which come in a stunning array of colours.
The most important step in setting a superyacht dining table is to have fun with it! Be brave and bold, don’t shy away from a little glitter or bold patterns. As long as it looks cohesive, we have no doubt your guests will love it.
